About the artwork
A Bouquet of Flowers, painted about 1612 by Flemish artist Clara Peeters, is an oil painting on wood in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. A richly observed arrangement rises from a glass vase against a dark background. Drooping flowers and fallen petals suggest the passing of time, while the artist’s signature appears on the stone ledge. The original panel measures 46 × 32 cm.
