an in-depth look at this piece
A stunning late 19th Century giltwood and gesso wall mirror. The arched frame has a cartouche pediment, issuing scrolling acanthus and foliate, which encloses a later bevelled plate.
Condition Notes:
This antique mirror is in great condition, with the frame retaining its original gilding, which has developed a beautiful patina over time. There is a small fracture to the acanthus leaf detailing at the very top of the frame.
The mirror surface is foxed - it has clouded due to deterioration. In recent years this has become a sought after effect, which is often created artificially using chemicals. The foxing on this mirror has occurred 100% naturally due to ageing over time.
This mirror is perfect for adding a touch of opulence to any room, whether it be a grand hallway, an elegant living room, or a sophisticated bedroom. Its detailed craftsmanship and rich history make it a captivating focal point in any Dark Academia or vintage-inspired interior.
