Dark, Gothic, Occult Home Decor | Old Town Magick

As a Scot, I’d be remiss not to mention Burns Night - even though I never quite felt tethered to its quirks. Something about bagpipes and old Scots prose can feel out of step with modern life, yet I feel there’s a certain magic in preserving “wee” bits of tradition here and there - even if it feels very old fashioned at times! I must confess, I’ve always found the traditional Scots dialect a bit tough on the ear (especially compared to the elegance and romanticism of my favourite latin languages!). Still, I do have a soft spot for the theatrics of a Burn’s Supper: piping in the haggis, the odd toasts to “lassies” and “laddies,” and a general sense of playful silliness around the table. Given my love for all things bygone, but also believing in an occasional update, I’ve decided to host a Burns Supper tonight with a few personal flourishes. Naturally, I’ll be keeping one foot in tradition (there will be haggis!) but I will of course be weaving in some darkly magickal elements to uphold the dark aesthetic I so adore. Whether you’re celebrating or not, I’ll leave you with a snippet of the bard at his most macabre…In this chilling scene from “Tam O’Shanter”, Tam encounters the devil and a group of witches on a dark night. It’s a perfect nod to stormy, devilish nights that stir the imagination…swipe to read ➡️ May your burn’s night be filled with good food, drink and laughter, Slange Var!
